Our Mission
Udhamini Mentorship Network (UMN) is a grassroots NGO that targets budding students in primary and secondary school across Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale and Taita-Taveta Counties, Kenya.
As a tool for change, UMN fills in a gap missing within most socio-economic disadvantaged communities i.e MENTORSHIP. We create value by empowering the youth who eventually engage in social civic values.
“A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself.”
Oprah Winfrey
UMN prides itself in its three pillars: EMPOWER, NURTURE, and ACHIEVE. Consequently, UMN guarantees that its participants will progress throughout society with tools of trade that make them better educated, better equipped with career etiquette, and importantly better able to advocate for others like themselves.
An analysis of data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health survey (USA) showed that mentoring directed youth towards intrinsically rewarding careers and hence overall employment benefits ( McDonald and Lambert, 2014). This suggests that mentoring provides a sense of confidence within its beneficiaries that spurs them to be better citizens in their communities.
